Market Rises Off of Friday's Lows

Charles Schaap -

On Tuesday, the market opened up, and then it fell to test Friday's low. The Nasdaq Composite managed to reverse above Friday's low, while the S&P dipped below before turning up. Both indices closed at the upper half of the day's range, and the Nasdaq closed at a new high.

The Nasdaq gained +28 points and closed at 4,225 (+0.67%) while the S&P climbed +5 points and closed at 1,843 (+-.28%). Advancers beat decliners by nearly 2 to 1, and up volume beat down volume by 1.3 to 1.

The Nasdaq is the leading index, so the best information can be gained from its price action. Right now, it is above the late December high (that preceded 2 weeks of range). ADX is low, but +DMI is on top, so a move to the upside is the path of least resistance, at least for now.
